BACKGROUND

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming educational landscapes around the world, challenging the traditional roles of universities and introducing innovative approaches to learning, research and management. As an institution committed to academic excellence and innovation, the Universidade Pedagógica de Maputo (UP-Maputo) seeks to explore how AI can drive university transformations, improve teaching and learning outcomes, and enhance institutional efficiency.

This international conference will bring together experts, academics, policymakers and practitioners to discuss emerging trends in AI and their implications for higher education. It will serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration and training.

OBJECTIVES

The conference aims to:

Explore the impact of AI on higher education institutions, focusing on teaching and learning, research, and outreach/innovation.

Assess how AI can drive transformations in universities, optimizing governance, management and operational efficiency processes to promote a more innovative and responsive academic environment.

Foster international collaboration between higher education institutions (HEIs) and diverse stakeholders to jointly address the challenges and opportunities that AI presents, aiming at the creation of innovative and sustainable solutions.

Gather contributions and suggestions for the formulation of an AI policy for the University, considering various tools and platforms, including ChatGPT and DeepSeek

Present case studies, projects, and best practices that highlight the applications of AI in academic contexts and general education.

The conference format will be hybrid, allowing for both in-person and online participation to meet the different needs and preferences of participants.

The conference will include:

1. Plenary sessions: Presented by leading experts in AI and education.

2. Panel discussions: Focused on specific topics with diverse perspectives.

3. Workshops and training sessions: Hands-on, skills-building activities focusing on the use of AI tools and applications to support teaching.

4. Paper presentations: Presenting innovative research and case studies.

5. Networking sessions: Facilitating collaboration and partnerships among participants.

6. Exhibitions: Presenting AI tools, technologies, and projects relevant to higher education.

INVITATION TO PRESENT PAPERS

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

Abstracts must be submitted online through the platform https://conferencia-ia.up.ac.mz/

Users must first create their account on the platform

The deadline for abstract submission is 17 March 2025

Abstracts must be submitted and presented in English or Portuguese

Abstracts must be within the scope of the thematic areas of the conference.

Avoid citing sources in your abstract. The abstract must stand alone and be fully understandable without reference to other sources.

Define abbreviations the first time they appear in your text.

The maximum length is 3,500 characters, including spaces.

The minimum number of characters for an abstract to be reviewed is 1,000, including spaces.

Authors must indicate whether their presentation preference is oral, poster, or virtual.

Once you register as an author, you will receive a confirmation email.

After registering a new abstract, you will receive an email with your abstract ID. This abstract is still editable.

You can make corrections or delete editable abstracts, or register new abstracts until the deadline

All participants will be notified by June 13, 2025 whether their abstract was accepted, rejected, or needs changes

SUBMISSION OF FINAL WORKS

If the abstract is accepted, a final paper must be submitted. The final paper should be between 4 and 10 pages long (including references).

A paper should contain a description of the study in question and should follow the general structure of abstract, introduction, methodology, results, conclusions and references.

The title and list of authors should match those of the accepted abstract.

All references should be cited according to the bibliography and citation style.
